1984 The End

Freedom is Slavery. The end has come. Winston and Julia both thought that nothing could break apart their emotional bond. They were wrong in this case because they have no feelings for each other at all. They are now trapped in a world where there mind was literally altered and fixed for the Party's needs. There is no freedom. Everyone is selfish in one way or another and they want to maximize their well being the best they can and definitely live without suffering. Winston's betrayal of Julia sets him free from the suffer.

Winston and Julia meet in the end and even the thought of having sex with her sickens him. They both admit to the fact that they both betrayed each other. It's ironic even the strongest of emotional bonds can break with the torture and fear. It shows how the suffering to stop is more important then the emotional bond. They both have had a good share of torture in the dreadful room 10l and it's clear that all the love inside of them has been stripped away. They don't feel anything for each other at all. It's a scary thought that a Party with so much power will take away the one thing that people live for, love. However with that much pain and torture their selfish confused mind got to them. Winston had said he wanted Julia tortured instead and when he looks back he really meant it. NO one wants to suffer.

Winston and Julia's suffering stops and with that, the love for anything but the party begins. The journey of them feeling rebellious to being in love and then not loving one another at all took some time. But it shows that sometimes our minds aren't as strong as we would like. "He had won he victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."

Part 3 Just like the Nazis

"The Nazis, and the Soviets—it has learned how to eliminate its enemies without making martyrs of them" Reading this novel brings back the time in history when people like Hitler and the soviets turned to torture to get the ultimate power they needed. It's sickening for in order to get power they have to force and torture people. The resemblance to the time of the Holocaust and the 1900's is quite similar to the world of 1984.

Instead of only the Jews being tortured, everyone in 1984 is being tortured in one way or another. The Party and the Nazis both have one common goal in mind, limitless POWER. The ironic thing in 1984 about the fact that documents and pictures were being altered to change the past to make the new future is stuff that actually happened in the 1900's. Anyone who opposed the government were exiled or taken to prison. Exactly like in 1984 but with here it's even bigger extremes as you can't even think bad thoughts or the "thought police" will get you. Jews used to be tortured so harshly and their minds were brainwashed to accept the fact that they weren't good enough. Winston was forced to accept that his mind which was filled with love, Julia, his mother, and laughter was wrong and was definitely not good enough. His mind was to be filled with only the love of Big Brother and nothing else.

Big Brother and old political leaders of history act very similar. The greed for power and their way of getting it is in sync. The things that people like Hitler did to get his ultimate power was ridiculous which is why we had World War 2. With 1984 "War IS peace" and surly if someone like Hitler had the advance technology of telescreens everyehre, "Thought Police" and the Ministries he would have done the exact same thing as Big Brother.

Part 3 Brainwashed

He's Taken in and spit back out with a mind full of new thoughts. Winston is being brainwashed and with the final stage of acceptance getting closer, the Party's absurd ways is working. It's amazing how a mind can be fooled so easily and brainwashed into thinking a certain way.

At first, Winston thought he was smarter then Big Brother and new that deep down he still hated the party but when taken into the dreaded room 101 things change. "And perhaps you might pretend, afterwards, that it was only a trick and that you just said it to make them stop and didn't really mean it. But that is not true. At the time when it happens you do mean it." When Winston is enmeshed in the terrible torturing of rats being inches away from eating his face, his vulnerable mind takes over. He admits to O'Brien that he truly wishes that Julia should be tortured. O'Brien is satisfied and lets Winston go. At that moment it would seems as though Winston had just said that to stop the suffering. However, the Party's intelligent techniques make it so that deep down, Winston truly meant it for Julia to suffer instead.
In reality anyone can be brainwashed with some type of fear or torture that they don't even know they are going through. With certain relationships out there, one can be brainwashed by the other partner to do whatever works best for them. You can be in a relationship that is controlling you but you might not even know it. The way people can manipulate one another can make peoples mind vulnerable and change just with a click. It can happen to anyone and sometimes you aren't stronger than you think. Its hard and in the end you can choose to change it or accept it.

Winston chooses to accept he was brainwashed and live his life by moving on, drinking his victory gin. It had taken him a while but he accepts his new way of living and loves Big Brother. Something that was so improbable had happened.

Torture will Cure

Nothing is more worse than pain. Although Winston is starting to learn and understand the Party he still hates the Party. It's the worst thing to endure such physical pain and it can make you do anything for a chance for it to stop. Winston is being re taught everything and in this case Winston's hatred for the Party is turning into love.

When people are in pain they want to do anything to make it stop. This torturing of Winston is shaping his mind to obey and cure them so that it's easy for them to not think about anything in the past and focus on loving Big Brother. O'Brien holds up 4 fingers and asks if the party said that it was 5 how many would it be. After much pain and questioning, Winston finally sees 5 fingers.

When people are put in prison they are somewhat being tortured in a way. They are held back from the real word and held captive. This "pain" on them can make them finally accept what they did was wrong and be set free with new understanding. The prisoners are taught to "love" society and doing anything to harm it can cause one to come back to this prison of mental torture.

Winston is being educated in room 101 with pain to come to a new understanding of the Party. The extremes Big Brother takes for this to happen is insane but it probably needs to be this extreme to turn the hatred of the party into the love of it.

Part 3 Prison

"He did not know where he was." pg237. Winston awakens in the Ministry of Love and experiences hunger like never before. Now he is caught and it's time to rewind his mind into accepting and loving Big brother. Every hope of rebellion changes when O'Brien walks into the cell. "They got him too" and Winston seems crushed by this but somehow he knew all along. Big Brother is smarter then we thought. Winston finds out that he has been watched for many years and little by little Winston is learning and understanding the Party.

Winston and Julia could have been fools to think that the Party would never break apart the way they love each other. But with no surprise the party is succeeding in doing so. Winston is enduring pain and torture that make it impossible to think about Julia at a time like this. Big brother made Winston believe that O'Brien could have been his light of hope to get out of this misery but once again the Party was on top if this. It seems as though the Party is getting smarter and smarter with what they are doing. Their greed for more power is getting stronger and the people are falling in their traps. Winston finds out that it was O'Brien who actually wrote Gold steins book and Winston, once again, is shocked that he was a fool to believe of a "Brotherhood."

Everyone can feel like a fool sometimes and believe things that seem so perfect when in reality, something more powerful was behind it all. Just like Winston's beliefs of the "Brotherhood" were shattered when O'Brien speaks the truth. With learning that the Party is simply ahead of the game Winston is beginning to learn the party's ways.

End of Part 2

All good things come to and end and the secret love between Julia and Winston come to a halt. When love is real, people will do anything to be with one another even if that means death as a consequence. Just like Romeo and Juliet, they are forbidden to be together but escape into their own world to love one another. Winston and Julia sneak away into a rented room where they can share their love without Big Brother watching....yet.

It's frustrating when two people love each other but can't be with each other in the open. All the media and movies influence what love should be like and how couples are always together showing of their affection to the world. When it's real love people don't care what others think and the power of love overcome any outside influence. Just like Winston and Julia and how they don't care that what there doing is wrong, regardless if they get caught. While in the rented room above Mr.Charringtons shop, Winston and Julia are reading Goldsteins book, when in a flash, they are caught. The start of a rebellious relationship ends and the torture begins.

Even though they both knew it would end at least they can say they spent memorable moments together. They lived their life to the fullest at that time and shared beautiful moments with each other. It's better to do what your heart desires and not let others influence your choice otherwise regret will be on your mind.

Part 2 Secrets

Living life to the fullest. Julia has come to understand and accept the life she is living. She feels like even though the Party wants people to live in fear and honor the party, she does not have too. Both Winston and Julia want to get something different out of their relationship

Everyone feels that they must obey the Party out of fear and for their own
"protection." Julia's perspective on life is quite different from other people and Winston. Julia feels that she wants to live in the moment and what ever happens, happens. She is enjoying the sex and plotting ways to not get caught by the Party. While Winston wants to enjoy the relationship part like that of a old married couple. The thought of that even likely to happen makes Winston feel that this fling wont last very long.

Julia thrives off the rebellion but Winston wants to take it to the next level. Although Winston and Julia share a special bond and connect with one another, their views contradict each other.

Part 2: Julia

Her name is Julia. And the whole time she was known as the dark haired girl. Finally a name to the description. Julia and Winston finally meet together far from telescreens. The paranoia Winston experiences is high because he is enmeshed in many thoughts. Confusing thoughts about love, Julia, and the party make him wonder what it's worth.

Winston's journey with Julia is wonderful but it frustrates Winston because he wants to enjoy Julia the way he wants to. Is he in love with this girl? Or is it simply a way to seek revenge on the Party. Finding out that Julia actually loves sexuality, is ironic because she is in the Anti-Sex League. They are both very passionate with each other and the hope that she may want to rebel against the party intrigues Winston. He is still confused about her motives and how she wants to rebel but they continue to meet.

Winston seems to be relieved because he now has someone to share and express himself towards someone and it happens to be the girl he was clearly in love with from the start. Although he wants more out of this little scandal, sharing a bond with someone makes it worth it.

Part 2: Chapter 1

The mysterious dark haired girl pops up once again and to Winston Smith's surprise she hands him a note that says "I Love You." Winston is now caught with a whirlwind of thoughts. He thinks maybe this is too good to be true and maybe she is still a member of the thought police. The thought of her actually being open and upfront makes Winston feel a great deal of passion towards life and the fear of getting caught is somewhat exciting to him and to readers as well. The secret new bond he forms is captivating and adds a twist to this novel.

In life people may look to someone and might love them deeply but try to look past that by thinking they are their enemy. Winston had picked on the dark haired girl for some time about how he dislikes her and the that fact she is in the Anti-Sex League. However, when he realizes she loves him, his world changes and he looks for the good in this. Feelings of how the relationship would work or if they would even be able to see each other is some thoughts that run past him.

In our society, the government doesn't have a say in who you can love or not. You are free and open to love anyone. The fear of getting caught though brings excitement in his life and not knowing what to expect makes readers feel intrigued to read more.

1984 Part 1

Sneaking around town, avoiding telescreens and watching your back everywhere you go, is what the world 1984 consists of. This is just what Winston Smith does when he illegally purchases a diary in part 1 of 1984. This diary is so he can express his illegal thoughts on paper for maybe one day someone in the near future will come across it. George Orwell imagined what 1984 will be like and to an extent it reflects how our society is today.


"Big Brother is Watching You," is in every corner of the town. The protagonist, Winston Smith, is filled with anxiety and even thoughts of the government can be caught by the Thought Police. When writing his thoughts in the diary, Winston must hide in this little space where the telescreen is in no contact with him. Simple conversations with friends or family are suspicious and you can't even read, write or act without great caution and care. This world is ridiculous because everyone is living a lie and the frustration rises as privacy is being abolished and even a new way of speaking is made.


Our society today is surprisingly like that of Orwell's novel but it's done in a way that our world might not even think that at all. When walking in the mall, you are being watched. When attending schools you are being watched. When exchanging and purchasing a product your information is taken down. The government can easily take down your information and find out everything about you in a flash.


Although our world is "being watched" we still have every right to talk to who ever we want and say what we like. There's no consequences if we have a negative thing to say about the government because of the right to freedom of speech. In peoples own home there is privacy where it is easy to hide things from others and even the government.



1984 is some what like our society but people have a greater knowledge of when controling privacy goes to far. Since people have a good understanding of how a world of 1984 could possibly exist it is important that our world doesn't turn out to be like that of 1984 so our life is not a lie of hide and seek.
